KC King is an independent singer, saxophonist, sound engineer, producer, bandleader, and multidisciplinary artist. King is an artist and creative that finds it deeply important to connect communities through music. She started falling in love with music while learning to play guitar when she was young. When she picked up the saxophone, the love for music was solidified. She would take any opportunity to play in bands throughout school. King even picked up singing and music production through classes she took in high school. The summer of 2020, she created her debut album Cicatrize, an album she produced fully from her bedroom.
KC then attended Ball State University as a Music Media Production Major and Jazz Studies Minor. While there, she utilized the recording studios to record projects like Hold Me Down, Mind Body Soul (The Acoustic Session) EP, multiple recordings for friends and colleagues, and her sophomore album Me Myself and I coming out in 2027. King also created a band called KC and the 3 Kings during her time at Ball State. Through this band and other ensembles like Studio Band, she has been able to perform at places such as The Old National Centre, The Jazz Kitchen, Harrison Center for the Arts, Bloom Box Music Festival, Be Here Now, Locked Groove Records, Indiana City Brewing, and more.
King has also worked in her career field and accrued hands-on experience through stage technician roles and teaching positions during college and after. Her job as a Stage Technician for the Indianapolis Parks Department has been her favorite experience and affirmed the love she has for hearing and supporting live and local music.

Post-grad, her first endeavor was moving to Sierra Leone, West Africa where she worked as a music teacher and women’s advocate at Ballanta Academy of Music and Performing Arts (BAMPA) and Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL). She taught saxophone, voice, music theory, music production, a youth praise band, and produced and recorded songs with Girls Protection Club (GPC) of CCSL. GPC was a highlight of her time in Sierra Leone because women’s rights are deeply important to King. Due to cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), women lose autonomy to their own bodies in this region of the world. GPC’s work centered around advocating against FGM, harrassment, assault and more. See here for more information about FGM an its complex cultural roots.
Through Ballanta Academy of Music and Performing Arts, KC King was able to host her first ever sound engineering workshop— Sounds of Salone Sound Engineering Workshop. It was sponsored by Playing for Change and free to participants. King taught participants concepts such as acoustics, cable management, clean cable runs/stage setup, input lists, EQ, compression, analog mixing consoles, digital mixing consoles, and more. The workshop was a coveted experience for KC as this grew her technical and soft skills. King is incredibly grateful to BAMPA for their infinite support as she planned and organized the workshop, and King hopes to do more educational workshops like this in her career.
Now that King is back from the Motherland, she has continued pursuing stage technician work, produces for Good Home Training Podcast, performs with KC and the 3 Kings, mixes projects for hire and most importantly continues to explore her creativity through music. Every opportunity she has to be a part of the music process confirms her love for what she does. King continually expresses her most authentic self in her music and continues to find ways to connect communities through music.
